Weekend Ideas In Tokyo

What are you doing this weekend? These beautiful hydrangeas have made my day everyday this week and inspired me to do something outdoors. So Jesse and I are picnic-ing and going a-hunting for decent coffee in Tokyo (any suggestions?). We have heard great things of About Life Coffee Brewers, so Shibuya (a mere 40 minute trip from our home, no biggie) here we come! I hope you have a lovely weekend.

The Parfait Challenge: Café Chat Noir

So, my second post of all time is a parfait review, obviously.

It is no secret that Jesse and I are major eaters of the sugar staple (as soon will become blatantly clear). A trip to the grocers involves buying vegetables, eggs, meat, and ice-cream. A date night out for us will regularly involve dessert. Heck, we met while eating dessert. And we, okay, I, have been known to eat cookie dough straight from the wrapper.

And Japan, as it seems, is the ultimate grounds for what we like to call The Parfait Challenge. They may not have great coffee (possibly another idea for a slightly more demanding challenge), but soft-serve, fruit, brownie, cornflakes (?), and all manner of outrageous ingredients are apparently readily available.

Hence, each month (note, month, which was not my first timeframe of choice - i.e. try week) we will find a parfait worthy of devouring.

Cafè Chat Noir
*** 3 out of 5 stars
Cheap and easy, good luck finding it

I ordered the Caramel Banana Pancake (not technically a parfait, but trust me it looked like one).

He ordered the Double Decker Parfait a.k.a. The Biggest One (when it comes to ice-cream, I think we can count on him for that).

Food: Okay, but I definitely wasn't complaining!

Value: Cheap as chips. My dessert was ¥290 (approximately $2.90 in Australia).

Atmosphere: Hmmmm. I didn't love the smokers-welcome vibe. Also, there was a man literally sleeping, which is cool, but I feel it dampened the atmosphere a touch.

Service: Always 100%. I have a feeling poor service may be hard to find anywhere in Japan.

Where: Kichijoji, Tokyo Japan (map)

Bon Appetit!

Note: The menu was in Japanese, so these are my terrible improvised names, apologies.

Our Wedding

Jesse and I were married on the 12th of March, 2011 in the Secret Garden of Lavender Bay in Sydney, Australia. Obviously life has never been the same since. Words can't begin to describe how thankful I am to every one of our family and friends who are always there for us and make our lives ten thousand times better. And especially to you, mr husband.

Here are some photos from the day, and a link to the video, if you'd like to see.
